Philadelphia 76ers lost the NBA Championship in the 1949-1950 season.

"Election" in 1952. Eisenhower won, his "Inauguration Year" was 1953.
Philadelphia 76ers lost the NBA Championship in the 1953-1954 season.

"Election" in 1976. Carter won and his "Inauguration Year" was 1977.
Philadelphia 76ers lost the NBA Championship in 1977.

"Election" in 1980. Reagan won and his "Inauguration Year" was 1981.
Philadelphia Eagles lost the Super Bowl in 1981, and Philadelphia 76ers lost the
NBA Championship in the 1981-1982 season.

"Election" in 1984. Reagan won and his "Inauguration Year" was 1985.
Philadelphia Flyers lost the NHL Championship in 1985.

"Election" in 1992. Clinton won and his "Inauguration Year" was 1993.
Philadelphia Phillies lost the World Series in 1993.

"Election" in 2000. Bush won and his "Inauguration Year" was 2001.
Philadelphia 76ers lost the NBA Championship in 2001.

"Election" in 2004. Bush won and his "Inauguration Year" was 2005.
Philadelphia Eagles lost the Super Bowl in 2005.

"Election" in 2008. Obama won and his "Inauguration Year" was 2009.
Philadelphia Phillies lost the World Series in 2009, and Philadelphia Flyers lost
the NHL Championship in the 2009-2010 season.

"Election" in 2016. Trump won and his "Inauguration Year" was 2017.
Philadelphia Eagles have made the Super Bowl in the 2017 season...

Beginning in 1949 that's 20 "Inauguration Year"s, 20 chances...
and Philly has lost a major sports championship 10 times!
50% of the time!

But it's more than that... They have been in it and won it in Inauguration Years,
twice, but both were strange situations.

The Eagles won the pre-Super Bowl era championship in 1949, which was an Inauguration Year but was right after the whole Roosevelt serving four terms and then Truman taking over mid-term thing... three years later he was then "elected" himself and 1949 was his Inauguration Year.

"Eagles" = 49. Maybe it was special?

The Flyers won the Stanley Cup in 1973, well the season that began in 1973, which was
an Inauguration Year, it was Nixon and he was embroiled in scandal that whole year.

So EVERY SINGLE TIME they've been a championship in a "normal" Inauguration Year
they've lost. HOWEVER, with all the Trump hysteria, you could say this one wasn't "normal".

And, actually, comparing it to Nixon... That was the '73-'74 season for the Flyers,
and they actually won the Cup in '74... And this is the 2017 season for the Eagles
but the Super Bowl will be decided in '18... And Nixon and Trump are comparable in a way...

BUT, '74 was an Election Year... 2018 is not.

I think overall, they are 2-10 in Inauguration Years / seasons beginning in such years.

Cheers!
