BOSTON CELTICS on whim...

 2017-2018 NBA pre-playoff prediction:

Celtics vs Thunder

Haven't done any work on the NBA all season, only glanced at the All Star game
and Dunk Contest...

Sat down to do some pre-playoff work and make a pick and one of the first
things I noticed was that leading into this, the '17-'18 season, there were no
off season coaching changes...

...allegedly that's the first time that's happened since going into the '75-'76 season,
so I took a look at the '75-'76 season and then got fixated on one team.

So this is incomplete but here it is.

Back in the '75-'76 season there were only 18 teams in the league...
...this is the season that concludes in '18...

In '75-'76 the Cavs lost the eastern conference championship, and
the Warriors lost the western conference championship...
something that could very well happen this year...

One thing I've been sure of all year just on a common sense basis,
is that they will NOT do Cavs vs Warriors again for the fourth time in a row!
That doesn't mean they won't go out before the conference finals, but it
would make sense if they both made the conference finals and then lost...

In '75-'76 the Boston Celtics won the championship.
That was against the Suns, the worst team in the league this year...

I know Boston is being counted out due to injuries but...

...This is the 72nd NBA season. First off, how neat that,
"seventy-second season" = 72... anyway...
72 reversed is 27...

...Boston is the ONLY team to have lost 27 games this season.
Their final reg. season game totaled to 207 (27) points...
They were one of three teams to win 27 games at home (Pacers, Thunder).
"Boston" = 103 [reverse bacon] (the 27th prime)
Their head coach,
"Bradley Kent Stevens" = 103...

...Brad Stevens, was in the womb during the '75-'76 season,
and was born one day after the next season began.

The '75-'76 season and this one both ended on April eleventh.

Maybe that season and this one are connected,
from the beg. of the playoffs of that season,
to the beg. of the playoffs of this season:
almost exactly 42 years (42 years and 1 day)...
...and the finals that year were 4-2 (42)...

...so 42...
"seventy-two" = 42
"seventy-second" = 181 (42nd prime)

and,
"Brad Stevens" = 181 [bacon].

And then just for Stevens and this the 72nd season,
"Bradley Stevens" = 72...

"seventy-two" = 168
"Brad Stevens" = 168...

...168 reversed is 861, the 41st triangular number...
Stevens is 41 years old...
"Bradley" = 41...

...playoffs begin on 4/14... 414... a 41 both ways.

...and this might be similar every season but they did move the
start of the season up this year, and from the start of the season
to the beg. of the playoffs was 179 days (the 41st prime)...

...that time span is also 5 months and 28 days (528)
528 is the 32nd triangular number
"Boston" = 32
"BKS" = 32 (coach's initials).

"Brad Kent Stevens" = 53
"seventy-second" = 53

"Boston Celtics" = 48
"seventy-two" = 48

"Celtics" = 71
"seventy-second" = 71

Now, their star player, Kyrie Irving is out with an injury...
from the date of his final game this year to the playoffs beg.
was 4 weeks and 6 days (46)
"Celtics" = 46...

...w/the end date that was 35 days
"Celtics" = 35...

...he was 25 years old at the time
"Celtics" = 97 (the 25th prime).

And then, he was injured/played his final game of the season
on 3/11... 311 reversed is 113, the 30th prime
the '75-'76 season was the 30th NBA season.

Here's an odd thing about Irving I noticed...
currently his career two point field goal percentage is .493
...he's played 493 all time games.

...and his "effective field goal percentage" is .520
...he's played 52 playoff games.

And if Boston were to win it, it would be their 18th championship...
winning it in the year '18...

but maybe they win it next year in the season that begins in '18...

I don't know and like I said, I only looked at Boston,
and only a little bit.

But just for fun I will go Celtics vs Thunder
and the Celtics win.

Cheers!

p.s.: decided to check this real quick:
"coaching changes" = 72...

...so, maybe?

  1. Hey man, I’m still here just been busy.

    This is interesting, I haven’t paid much attention to the NBA this year but I will look into this more.

    I grew up a Celtics fan so I know a lot about them so I should be able to find some other connections. I’ll either share here or make a post depending on what I find.

    Goood stuff as always, start putting on videos!

  2. Very interesting line of thinking. It's possible it will go that way, but I think the coding is stronger on the Cavs this year.
